Intesa, Cucchiani: Monti bis is fundamental, otherwise there are big risks

"Not only do I consider it fundamental, but I also consider it extremely probable“. So Enrico Tomaso Cucchiani, CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo, expressed his opinion today support for the hypothesis of a second government led by Mario Monti.

"Alternative solutions could involve major risks for the country", added the manager speaking on the sidelines of the Ambrosetti workshop.

As for the new anti-spread plan launched yesterday by the ECB, Cucchiani believes it was "a very important and very strong step by Draghi, who is exercising a very concrete and very pragmatic leadership”.

The common goal, according to the top manager, must be to “accelerate towards the banking, fiscal and economic integration of Europe. It is an irreversible path, we try to support it with courage, because all this is not enough if the various States do not do their homework". In Italy "we must continue on the path of reforms and debt containment".

From Cucchiani also a comment on the attitude of the Germans towards the ECB: “In Germany the prevailing opinion from the business community is that we are moving in the right direction”.

The CEO of Intesa also spoke of the impacts that Draghi's decision could have on the operations of the banking system: "Certainly the fall in the spread helps to lower rates on loans to the economy, and I believe it can facilitate the operations of banks".

Finally, as regards the policy of Intesa Sanpaolo, a leading institution in the purchase of government bonds, "we have always given our contribution - assured Cucchiani - and we will continue to give it".
