Intesa-Assobiotec: with BioInItaly 9 biotech projects made in Italy

Plants that become bioreactors to produce sustainable biopharmaceuticals, bio-absorbable patches, sustainable encapsulation technologies. These are some of the projects in the Circular Bioeconomy and Life Sciences fields that have been selected by "BioInItaly Investment Forum & Intesa Sanpaolo StartUp Initiative”, the course organized by Assobiotec -Federchimica, the National Association for the development of biotechnologies, Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center and Cluster Spring, aimed at innovative biotech startups and business projects.

BioInItaly Investment Forum & Intesa Sanpaolo StartUp Initiative started at the end of January 2021 with a Virtual National Roadshow, which touched the cities of Milan, Venice, Padua, Trieste and Naples and with an online call, bringing together a total of about one hundred projects and nominations. The experience continued in the following months for 22 selected startups and at the end of the process, the protagonists were called to present their project to the deal line-up in front of an audience of selectors, made up of financial investors, industry experts and managers of enterprise.

Eventually 9 finalist startups had access to the Investment Forum. These are 5 new companies operating in the Circular Bioeconomy and 4 active in the Life Sciences, which had the opportunity to present their idea and business plan to investors.

“As Assobiotec we have been working for many years at BioInItaly to ensure that more and more innovative ideas can meet capital and have concrete development; despite the small national dimensions we are proud of the results achieved so far, with over 70 million euros invested in the future of these realities. - explains Riccardo Palmisano president of Assobiotec Federchimica.

"In the current and progressive post-pandemic context, health and environmental sustainability are assuming, at a global level, a fundamental role for the restart and construction of the future" - he underlines Guido de Vecchi, general manager of Intesa Sanpaolo innovation Center. “For 12 years Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center has been the driving force and promoter of the BioInItaly Investment Forum, in support of entrepreneurial initiatives in the field of Life Sciences and Circular Bioeconomy. This year, the Italian startups and SMEs selected by us have applied for projects of an international level which, thanks also to our relationships on the major capital markets, have attracted an audience of large companies and over 200 investors from numerous countries".
