INTERVIEW: Kristian Buziol the gardener who talks to greyhounds

Kristian Buziol he is an entrepreneur from Treviso, of the second generation of nurserymen. After 25 years of experience and important commissions which see the reorganization of historic gardens such as that of Villa Freya in Asolo (former residence of the British explorer and essayist) with its holm oaks and ancient roses or that of Villa Emo in Fanzolo, (work of the great Andrea Palladio) with his architecture of country avenues and secular trees, Kristian decides to devote himself mainly to design, entrusting the implementation work to the "green" workforce who carefully researches the various countries where he now plans and creates natural environments in respect of the local culture with local labor.

And it is in this context of life that he meets his partner Lorella Zago, a lover of nature and with a respectable corporate experience in the agri-food sector, and together they plan a new business model that is apparently dissociated but which in reality has a single and precise leitmotif "the preservation of nature and rediscovering its perfect harmony of sharing with all the elements that compose it”.

Kristian, what does nature mean to you? and do business with nature?

We live in a society that has been able to build a lot, innovation, technologies and a certain well-being, we have built a complex world and now we are in an epochal change, but what has been done must be seen as something positive. From our house, if we look a little further down the valley, beyond the hills of Asolo, we see sheds, but we can't close our eyes, they are there and we have to be able to see beyond. It would be enough to restore the landscape, add greenery to the walls or roof, or build avenues that lead to these "concrete ruins", thus creating a new microclimate that would also favor an energy saving system and a more eco-sustainable model.

And how did the idea of Asolo Dog Resort come about?

Simple, one day we decide to get a dog and a friend recommends a link where we can find greyhounds that are used for racing and once exploited abandoned to a pitiful end. We fall in love with Bairon, who is still with us, then Prince and others arrive, today there are 5 of them and they all live respectfully in our model of life and work, they accompany us at home, in the office or while we are in the gardens designing. And so we opened our house which turned into a “Resort for 4 paws”: we know that often you don't know where to leave your dog and you are always afraid of how it might be treated if placed in a boarding house. With us, a guest is like a dear friend, who stays with us while we chat, work or simply enjoy the landscape that is taking shape. Our customers are dogs and their owners bring them to us for a holiday, which allows people to feel at peace when they have to take a plane or face even a short trip with the worry of having left their friends alone at home.

A passion within a profession or vice versa, which I understand is already evolving… right?

Exactly, in fact everything is taking shape...we will soon be moving to a country house nestled in the hills nearby, with over 30 meters of greenery, where there will be an area dedicated to design, another area dedicated to the dog resort and a last one that will be curated by Lorella, which involves the creation of an organic orchard with old varieties of fruit, such as the ancient apple tree, the biricoccolo or the different types of cherry. A sort of "pick fruit on" that will allow people to relive the taste, the emotion of picking fruit grown in an all-natural way by themselves. Then with small steps we will complete the entire project for that purpose which is nothing other than wanting to try to create a company with a precise lifestyle that allows man to recover what he has now lost, respect and quality of life whatever it is.

It will also be the place where our collaboration with the Belgian photographer will continue Paul Croes  where it is possible to carry out shootings starring your four-legged friend, the next appointment will be held from 2 to 17 August and will be a new opportunity to further refine our project.

How do you see the future in general? and in Italy?

I am always positive, it will take time, maybe five years to see a resurgence. The economic and industrial fabric of manufacturing "has escaped" we just need to be able to grasp the best from past experiences, but the tomorrow that awaits us is linked to a new model of life, I believe more and more in tourism and in a company that knows how to "welcome ”. After all, Italy has an immense heritage that is difficult to erase and then let's just say... we are always the ones to criticize us, while abroad continues to love us even with all our gossip or continuous political vicissitudes. We just have to think that there is a new future in our hands, and we have to "shape" it exactly like a good gardener who prunes dry branches so that the tree becomes lush and fruitful.
