Internet is used more and more on the move: smartphones ready to overtake the PC

Looking at the graph Nielsen of the number of people surfing on Internet with mobile devices compared to those who prefer the classic one fixed PC workstation, it seems that there is still little to wait. The intersection between the two representative curves of the samples is really around the corner. At most, the overtaking could take place in 2014.

In the collective imagination, the Internet has already lost the connotation of service to which one connects by going to a certain place in favor of something that one always carries with one and which is ever closer to one's body. Yet it is enough to go back just 5 years to find skepticism towards navigation via mobile devices, despite the fact that the experts had already unbalanced themselves in a forecast that was not very convincing at the time, but which is now confirmed: "The overtaking of mobile on old computers".

In United States linear growth in the purchase of fixed PCs has suffered a slowdown, in 2012, which suggests a similar behavior of the Italian PC market in the coming months. As far as mobile devices are concerned, however, the curve that best represents the trend in purchases is always a linear function, but with a slightly greater positive slope. This means, making the necessary proportions on the distances between the individual values over time, around the end of 2013 the two lines will meet. Therefore, at the beginning of 2014, there will be the real overtaking.

Already today, mobile tools in Italy there are at least between 23 and 24 million, against 28 million fixed computers and the list of "overtakings" that have taken place in the last 3 years by tools that allow "on the go" communication compared to non-transportable ones is already very long: it goes from overtaking the number of Cell in relation to that of corded telephones overtaking in sales of notebook compared to desktop computer.

Another very interesting figure, which helps to understand the success of mobility, is the one concerning the use of the smartphone to perform payments, both through the app and through the real thing mobile banking. In the United States, these operations are now performed on a daily basis, while in Italy the use of the Internet in shops before making purchases is in vogue, precisely to Check product reviews.
