Inter, bitter ending: 2-1 for Chievo

Inter, bitter ending: 2-1 for Chievo

Nothing to declare. Chievo-Inter ends 2-1, but in the end it's as if it never even existed. In fact, in terms of standings, the Bentegodi match does not change anything, except for the statistics. The hosts win, two goals from Obinna overturning Andreolli's goal, a result that only displeases Samuel, Cambiasso, Zanetti and Milito, in their last match for the Nerazzurri. To tell the truth, even Moratti turned up his nose, present in the grandstand in Verona, a bit like a father at the farewell of his favorite sons. But this Inter has moved on and, to be honest, not now. Thohir's choices are clear, the Nerazzurri will have to focus on young players starting next summer. With Mazzarri on the bench, ça va sans dire.

“I've never been a coach who goes looking for contracts – explained the coach at the press conference. – We must reopen with enthusiasm, regardless of these things. The renewal is the last thing that interests me, I have to speak well with the club because it has been a difficult year, so many things have happened that we have to manage all together. We need to talk and then start again with great enthusiasm”. In short, WM suggests his desire to continue in the Nerazzurri, but only on condition of investments of a certain type. The usual wrong-thinkers see it as a lack of courage, but he doesn't think so.

“Last year in Naples I had the best year of my career when my contract expired – he explained. – And then, when I arrived here, the fans had asked me for Europe. This is why I consider the season to be positive, also because so many things have happened. Renewal doesn't change anything, next year I'll come back and try to do my best”. The season therefore ends here, with an irrelevant defeat which however leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

Inter wanted to greet their "heroes" in a different way, if only to better close a great cycle of victories so distant in time, but then not so much. And instead the match against Chievo ends in defeat, daughter of a former Nerazzurri who is not at all regretted, unlike the highly decorated Argentines. It was Victor Obinna, 9 appearances and 1 Inter goal back in 2008/09, who ruined the party set up by Andreolli, ironically another ex of the match. The defender, after two woodwork hits by the hosts in the first half (Paloschi and Lazarevic), found the joker in the 41st minute with a nice right-footed volley, celebrated with great sobriety, as usual.

Unlike the Nigerian, who in the 73rd minute equalized the match with a diagonal shot that mocked Carrizo and rejoiced as if it were a Champions League final. It's not like that, but it doesn't matter. Obinna is charged and in the 90th minute he finds the 2-1 with a nice shot from outside the box that blows up Bentegodi. Chievo is safe, Inter is in the Europa League. Verdicts already written, which do not change the judgment on a particular season for the Nerazzurri. The Europe objective has been achieved, but only with the minimum wage. Enough to save Mazzarri's bench, but not to inextricably link his future to the Inter bench.
