Inter and Milan: wasted opportunity and only equal

MILAN CHAMPIONSHIP - Both Mancini's Nerazzurri and Mihajlovic's Rossoneri throw away the chance to climb back up in the standings and have to settle for two useless draws - Inter sleeps on set-pieces and only catches the 3-3 in Verona by comeback – Milan let themselves be pierced by the ex Armero and make up for it with Niang but the knockout blow fails

Inter and Milan: wasted opportunity and only equal

Wasted opportunity. Inter and Milan don't go beyond a draw against Verona and Udinese, thus missing a great chance to get closer to the noble area of the standings. The Nerazzurri could have found themselves alone in third place, the Rossoneri just 4 points behind Fiorentina, but the only one smiling is Spalletti's Roma, who have risen to 44 points and just two points off the podium. The Champions League fight remains wide open but the Milan of football, once again, has shown all its technical and personality limits, although the two draws in question both came from a comeback.

“We had started very well, then we found ourselves down on two corner kicks – Mancini thought after the 3-3 draw at Bentegodi. – I liked the performance as well as our reaction after the disadvantage, a pity about the total inattention on set pieces: we continued to sleep throughout the match".

This is a draw that burns for Inter even if, in light of the match, the glass can also be considered half full. Off to a good start and immediately ahead with Murillo (8'), the Nerazzurri melted away under set pieces from Verona: in fact, all 3 yellow and blue goals came from there with Helander (12'), Pisano (16') and Ionita (57').

The 3-1 seemed to be the tombstone of Inter's match, but instead there was a reaction that bodes well for the future. First Icardi (61'), then Perisic (78') set the score on the final 3-3, a point that doesn't count for third place but which, in the end, given how things had turned out, can be accepted without too many dramas .

The situation for Milan is different, forced to win to get closer to the championship podium and instead forced to deal with an unnecessary draw. Yes, continuing like this it will be very difficult for the Rossoneri to be able to fight for third place: whenever there are a couple of encouraging victories, disappointments follow immediately afterwards.

“The result is random, we conceded from their only shot on goal – commented Mihajlovic. – We are sorry for not having won, it was a great opportunity to shorten the standings. However, the boys mustn't give up because if we continue to play like this, we'll definitely recover".

In fact, Milan's performance, although inevitably tarnished by the 1-1 draw, was positive, much more than on other occasions. It's a pity that the Rossoneri started in a distracted way and found themselves down by a goal (17'Armero) almost without realizing it.

In the second half, however, the wind definitely changed and Mihajlovic's team first found an equalizer (48' Niang) and then came close to the lead numerous times: in particular with Bacca (miracle by Karnezis from close range) and Bertolacci (sensational goalkeeper beaten).

However, the 2-1 never came and Milan, just like Inter, had to deal with an opportunity thrown to the wind. The umpteenth of a season that, turning point, really doesn't want to hear about it.
