L'Italy is preparing for a truly summery weekend with the African anticyclone continuing to guarantee sun, clear skies and aheat wave intense across much of the country. Temperature well above the seasonal average will mainly affect the central-northern regions, with peaks locally close to or above 40 degrees. However, already from Sunday the first signs of a change weather: a mass of cool Atlantic air will bring thunderstorms, especially in North part, a prelude to a possible drop in temperatures in the new week.
Weekend forecast June 14-15, 2025: intense heat and first thunderstorms
Saturday June 14th It will be a largely sunny day and very hot throughout the country. Maximum temperatures will widely exceed 30-32 degrees, with peaks that could reach 36-38 degrees in the Tyrrhenian internal areas and in Emilia-Romagna. The sun will shine everywhere, except for a few temporal afternoon located on Alps, especially among the high Piemonte, high Lombardia e South TyrolThese showers will remain mostly confined to the mountainous and pre-Alpine areas, with easing expected in the evening.
Sunday 15 June: the anticyclone will begin to weaken over Northern Italy, favoring the development of temporal also strong in the central and afternoon hours on the Alps Piemonte, Lombardia, Trentino Alto Adige e Veneto. These phenomena could extend towards the piedmont and adjacent plains, especially in Piedmont. In Centro e Southern Italy, however, the weather will remain stable and sunny, with high temperatures without significant variations compared to Saturday.
Temperature provided for in weekend:
- North part: maximum temperatures up to 35-36 degrees, with peaks of 38 degrees in Florence and Bologna
- Centro: intense heat, with 37 degrees in Rome and peaks of up to 36-38 degrees in the inland areas
- South and Islands: very hot, with peaks of 40 degrees in Sicily and 42 degrees in Sardinia
Weather forecast for next week: thunderstorms in the North, then the heat returns
Monday June 16 worsening weather is expected North part and on part of the Centro, with even strong thunderstorms between Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Emilia-Romagna, Marche and Abruzzo. The phenomena could be intense, with risk of hail e gusts of windo. The good news of this stormy passage is the drop in temperatures, which will drop to more bearable values, with maximum temperatures between 32 and 34 degrees, especially in the Centre-North.
However, this will only be a short respite: the African anticyclone will strengthen again, bringing stable weather, lots of sunshine and temperatures rising again. On the horizon we can see a new blaze of heat intense that could continue until June 20 and beyond.
