Intel, CEO Otellini retires

After almost forty years in the family Intel, Chief Executive Officer Paul Otellini announced he will be leaving the company in May. The time has come for retirement. “I have been fortunate to lead one of the largest companies in the world, but now is the time to step forward and transfer the leadership to a new generation of leadership,” she said. Otellini has been CEO of the company since the second quarter of 2005. The Intel board will evaluate internal and external candidates to replace him.

With a market capitalization of $100 billion, Intel supplies the chips to build more than 90% of personal computers, but lately the growing popularity of smartphones and tablets has weighed on sales.
