Innovation, on Twitter the startup is female

According to the Talent Garden Innovation Report 2018, a study carried out by analyzing 855.432 tweets launched from all over Europe and attributable to the theme of innovation, Italy is in third place in Europe by number of tweets: here are the hashtags most used by men and women.

Innovation, on Twitter the startup is female

Chatting about innovation on Twitter, the word most used by the female audience is startup, while men prefer to "hashtag" the English acronyms AI (Artificial Intelligence) and IoT (Internet of Things). This is one of the curiosities that emerges from the Talent Garden Innovation Report 2018, a study made analyzing 855.432 tweets launched from all over Europe, attributable to the theme of innovation. The report showed that the most techy country, at least on the social network that chirps, is the United Kingdom, practically on a par with second place France, both with around 213 innovative tweets over the whole of 2018. In third place however it is placed, and Italy by far, with 113 tweets, ahead of 73 in Spain and 71 in Germany, where innovation is probably done but not too much is communicated on social media.

Driving the Italian performance is invariably Milan, the technological capital of the country, where terms such as startup, Big Data, Digital transformation, Blockchain and cloud are not only widespread on Twitter but practically in everyday language. Almost 2018 tweets on innovative trends were fired from Milan alone in 30, three times as many as in Rome with 10 thousand, in third place Turin with 4.200. Only 500 came from Frosinone. Virtually half (48%) of all innovative Italian tweets came from Milan.

Of the more than 855 European tweets analyzed by Talent Garden, there are 168 unique users, 64% of whom are men and 36% are women. As mentioned, the word startup is very popular among the female audience, which instead does not even appear in the men's top ten, commanded by AI, IoT and Big Data. None of these terms appear in turn in the list of pink trends, where cybersecurity and insurtech complete the podium of the most used hashtags. The two most curious hashtags appear in the female ranking: they are SMM, which stands for social media marketing, and CX, which means customer experience.

At the Italian level, the trend does not change. The two reference words remain AI for men and startups for women, even if once again a very latest generation hashtag appears in the pink ranking: IIoT, or Industrial Internet of Things, i.e. the Internet of Things applied to Industry 4.0. That in a male-dominated environment such as that of technology, it is women who look further ahead?
