Innovation: with the crisis, Italian "green" patents are growing in Europe (+5,4%)

The data revealed yesterday, in Milan, during the "Innovation Forum of the Chambers of Commerce", organized by Unioncamere with the collaboration of the Chamber of Commerce of the Lombard capital - The innovations in "enabling technologies" are also on the rise - But more dialogue is needed between public research and companies.

“Mater artium necessitas” said i Latin, or necessity is the mother of genius. And in the difficulties of crisis in which they have been struggling for six years now, the Italians are giving good proof of themselves and their reputation as a nation of inventors. Over the last five years, in fact, the Italian technology patents “green” registered in Europe grew by 5,4% and those in the KETs (from the English Key Enabling Technologies) of 1,1%; a given that it is worth more than it appears, since the so-called “enabling technologies” are thought to trigger innovation processes accelerated across multiple sectors productive.

These are some of the data disclosed yesterday, in Milan, during the “Forum of Innovation of the Chambers of Commerce”, organized by Unioncamere with the collaboration of the Chamber of Commerce of Lombard capital. 

Broadening the gaze to the period between 1999-2012, the Office European Patent Office has published more than 14.000 patent applications companies attributable to KETs, equal to 27,9% of all activity Italian patent aimed at the European market. The distribution of these technologies highlights a strong specialization in manufacturing advanced (69,5% of patent applications), followed by Materials advanced (10,2%), photonics (7,4%), biotechnology (6,8%), micro and nanoelectronics (5,7%) and Nanotechnologies (0,4%).
