Inflation is reported to have "slightly increased" in January 2016, at 0,3%, accelerating from 0,1% in December. Istat notes that the national consumer price index decreased by 0,2% compared to the previous month and increased by 0,3% compared to January 2015, in the preliminary data.
The increase on an annual basis is attributable to the downsizing of the decline in energy goods and increases in transport prices. Excluding unprocessed food and energy, core inflation rises to 0,8% (from 0,6% in December).
As happens periodically, Istat also has basket updated for calculating inflation, by entering some products or services and removing others: tAmong the new entries for 2016, men's shorts, girls' leggings and tattoos deserve a mention.
