Inflation, Istat: 3% in September, top since October 2008

No change on a monthly basis - Increase in prices acquired for 2011 equal to 2,6% - Calculations that only partially take into account the latest VAT increase.

Inflation, Istat: 3% in September, top since October 2008

Continue the run of inflation, which is in September rose to 3% from 2,8% in August. It is the highest level since October 2008. This is the estimate by Istat, which revised the provisional trend figure slightly downwards (3,1%). The figure only partially takes into account the latter VAT increase decided by the Government.

On a monthly basis, however, the change is zero. The acquired inflation for 2011 is equal to 2,6%, while the underlying one – calculated net of energy goods and fresh foodstuffs – rises to 2,4% from the 2,2% of the previous month. The prices of the most frequently purchased products increased by 0,3% on a monthly basis and by 3,7% on an annual basis (+3,6% in August).

As regards the euro area, data provided by Eurostat see the harmonized index of consumer prices growing by 3% on an annual basis from 2.5% in August.
On a monthly basis the growth is 0.8%. Data that does not deny the expectations of economists.
