Inflation, rising to 2,7%

Inflation recorded an increase of 0,1% on a monthly basis in June, going from 2,6% to 2,7%. Strong impact of maritime (+52,8%) and air (+13,8%) transport services. Record food: from 2,9% to 3%. Petrol and diesel are down.

Istat confirms the provisional estimate. The tendential increase in the prices of goods is stable at 3%, that of the prices of services rises to 2,6% from 2,3% last May. The inflationary differential between goods and services therefore decreases by 0.3%.

The main thrust comes from the increase in the prices of transport-related services, with a 1,1% increase in the economic situation. The prices of travel tickets soar, in correspondence with a general increase in all services related to the summer holidays. On an annual basis, the increases concern air transport (+13,8%, +6,9% on a monthly basis), maritime transport (+52,8%, +10,8% on a monthly basis), rail transport ( +8,4%, +2% MoM), Transportation Insurance (+5,3%, +0,3% MoM), Accommodation Services (+3,9%, +0,9 .5,3% on a monthly basis) and bathing establishments (+3,5%, +XNUMX% on a monthly basis).

Food prices (including alcohol) also increased on a monthly basis, going from 2,9% to 3%, marking a record level for the last two years. On the other hand, cyclical decreases were noted in the prices of petrol and diesel. However, double-digit increases remain compared to the previous year's figure. The annual data communicated by Istat are +11,9% for petrol and +14% for diesel. The "shopping cart", i.e. the basket of products purchased most frequently (including food and fuel), recorded an increase of 3,5% on an annual basis and a decrease of 0,1% on a monthly basis.
