Inflation grows by 2,8% in August

Price index data published. Expectations confirmed with rises of 2,8 year-on-year and 0,3 cyclically. The prices of unregulated energy goods (fuels) and transport grew more.

Inflation grows by 2,8% in August

Istat confirmed the provisional data on inflation which in August had a growth trend of 2,8%, in July the index had risen on an annual basis by 2,7%. The figure constitutes the record increase in consumer prices since October 2008. In one month, prices increased by 0,3%.

The 0,9% increase in unregulated energy goods in July influenced the price increases: fuels are 15,5% more expensive than a year ago. The cyclical inflation of transport services was 2,5%. Unprocessed foodstuffs are cheaper (-0,6%).

The harmonized index of consumer prices marks an increase of 0,4 on a monthly basis and 2,3 on an annual basis. The national consumer price index for blue-collar and white-collar households (Foi), net of tobacco, increased by 0,3% on a monthly basis and by 2,8% compared to August 2010.
