Inflation: 1,4% in the Eurozone in May, 1,3% in Italy

According to Eurostat data, annual inflation in the Eurozone stood at 1,4% in May, while in Italy it was zero over the month and equal to 1,3% over the year

Annual inflation in the eurozone stood at 1,4% in May, while consumer prices rose by 0,1% on a monthly basis. This was revealed by Eurostat, underlining that in May 2012 inflation stood at 2,4%.

In the EU of 27 consumer prices increased in May by 1,6% over 12 months and by 0,1% over the month. The greatest impacts on inflation in the single currency area came from fruit and vegetables (+0,11 both) and electricity (+0,09), while fuel and transport prices slowed down (-0,28 ), telecommunications (-0,18) and medical and paramedical services (-0,08).

Eurostat notes that in Italy inflation in May was zero month on month and equal to 1,3% on year, better than both the Eurozone average and the Europe 27.
