On a day that opened with a cold shower Standard & Poor's downgrade, Italy tries to console itself with the good news coming from the industry. According to the latest Istat data, in July turnover grew by 4,5% on an annual basis and by 1,6% compared to last June, with increases of 0,3% on the domestic market and 4,6% on the abroad. In the May-July average, the index decreased by 0,6% over the previous three months.
If calendar effects are taken into account (there were 21 working days, against 22 in July 2010), turnover grew by 7,7% in trend terms, with an increase of 10,7% on the foreign market and 6,4 .26,4% on the internal one. The sectors in which the greatest increases are recorded on an annual basis are those of the manufacture of means of transport (+14,5%) and the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+XNUMX%).
The trend in orders was also good, which in July showed a tendential increase of 6,5% and a cyclical increase of 1,8%, due to an increase of 2,2% in internal orders and 1,3, 0,3% of foreign ones. On average for the last three months, total orders decreased by 39,1% compared to the previous quarter. The greatest increases on an annual basis are those of means of transport (+9,9%) and metallurgy (+XNUMX%).
