The Philip Morris Institute for Manufacturing Competences was born in Bologna (BMI). The new center for advanced training in Industry 4.0 skills will be built in full compliance with environmental sustainability. The completion of the works is scheduled for next summer.
It is an innovative project, a regional and national point of reference, to support the development of advanced skills for the professions of the future in the manufacturing world. The center will be built next to the Philip Morris Manufacturing & Technology Bologna production plant in Crespellano (BO).
The Philip Morris IMC will be accessible not only to the people of the Group and its supply chain, but also to the entire economic, business, education and training world. The activities will be organized around three key areas for Industry 4.0: training and professionalisation; technology transfer and open innovation; applied research and the university-company relationship.
The new facility will follow the most advanced environmental sustainability standards, and will be one of the first cases in Italy to obtain certification LEED of the Green Building Council Italy and the certification WELL Gold level.
Furthermore, the building will be equipped with a photovoltaic park for the production of electricity. A structure designed to satisfy people's well-being, with particular attention to energy efficiency, the use of renewable resources and environmental sustainability and landscape protection.
The creation of the Philip Morris IMC sees the involvement of the University of Bologna, the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Polytechnic University of Bari and ITS Maker and the BI-Rex and ART-ER consortium.

This project joins other initiatives with a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, which have generated agricultural investments for a total of approximately 2 billion euros since 2000 (together with MIPAAF and Coldiretti).
PM's commitment has also involved the Italian manufacturing related industries, thanks to the investment of over 1 billion euros in the Bologna area for the first factory in the world for smokeless tobacco which led to the hiring of over 1.200 people.
Finally, to complete the Italian supply chain, the recent investment for the construction of the Philip Morris Digital Information Service Center (DISC), a center dedicated to digital consumer services which foresees the creation of 400 jobs by 2021 in the city of Taranto, with an investment of approximately 100 million euros over 5 years.
