In July, Italian industry pulled the handbrake. Production fell 1,6% year-on-year and 0,7% compared to June. This was communicated by Istat, specifying that on average for the May-July quarter the index fell by 0,4% compared to the February-April period.
In the first seven months of the year, in any case, production grew by 1,4% compared to the same period of 2010. But in July there was an increase only in the capital goods sector (+4,8%) . Conversely, consumer goods (-7,0%), energy (-4,5%) and intermediate goods (-1,4%) fell. In the trend comparison, the sector that recorded the largest decrease is that of textile, clothing, leather and accessories industries (-20%).
