Industry, Istat: in 2011 turnover and orders slow down

The first figure grows by 5,6% on an annual basis, a marked slowdown compared to the +9,8% recorded in 2010 - The same goes for orders, which go from +13,8% to +5,9% - Growing the turnover driven by the foreign market.

In 2011 the turnover of Italian industry increased by 5,6%, a clear slowdown compared to +9,8% in 2010. As for the orders, last year are rose by an average of 5,9%, also in this case recording a sharp slowdown compared to the +13,8% of the previous year. The data was communicated by Istat.

As regards the turnover, to tow it growth was above all the foreign market (+9,3%), while internal growth was much more limited (+3,9%). Also on the orders front foreign countries are once again the driving force (+10,5%), against a smaller result on the domestic market (+3,2).

The factor that weighed the most on the 2011 figure – the Istat technicians explained – was the growth in producer prices.

Restricting our gaze to the month of December alone, the turnover of Italian industry grew by 5,6% on an annual basis and by 3,4% on a monthly basis (+3,1% on the domestic market and +4% on the foreign market ), while orders fell by 4,3% over the year, increasing instead by 5,5% compared to November.

The seasonally adjusted turnover indices recorded, in cyclical terms, an increase of 10,6% for energy, 5,8% for capital goods, 2,3% for intermediate goods and 0,4% for consumer goods.

The sector of economic activity for which the greatest tendential increase in turnover was recorded was that of the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+16,4%), for the environment, and the more marked decrease covered the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products, electromedical devices, app. measurement and watches (-10,6%).
