Industry, Istat: production +4,4% year on year in July

On average for the quarter May-July 2017, production increased by 1,4% compared to the previous three months – In the period January-July, on the other hand, the increase was 2,6% on the year.

Another sign of recovery from Italian industry. According to the latest Istat data, in July production increased by 0,1% compared to the previous month and by 4,4% on an annual basis (data corrected for calendar effects).

On average for the May-July 2017 quarter, production increased by 1,4% compared to the previous three months. In the January-July period, on the other hand, the increase was 2,6% on the year.

Returning to the data for July, the seasonally adjusted monthly index records positive cyclical changes in the groupings of capital goods (+1,6%), consumer goods (+0,5%) and intermediate goods (+0,3% ); on the other hand, the energy sector recorded a negative change (-3,6%).

In trend terms, the indices adjusted for calendar effects recorded significant growth for capital goods (+5,9%). Consumer goods (+4,1%), intermediate goods (+3,5%) and energy (+3,3%) also increased significantly.

The sectors that record the greatest trend growth are those of mining (+8,4%), of the manufacturing of machinery and equipment (+8,0%), of the food, beverage and tobacco industries and of the manufacturing of means of transport ( both +6,9%).

On the other hand, decreases were recorded in the sectors of the manufacture of electrical equipment and non-electrical household appliances, the manufacture of computers, electronic and optical products, electro-medical equipment, measuring equipment and watches (both -0,6%) and the textile industries , clothing, leather and accessories (-0,5%).
