Indonesia: fashion, online shopping is on the rise

According to a recent study, the favorite products of online shoppers in the Indonesian archipelago are clothing and fashion accessories. The research was conducted by Google Indonesia, in collaboration with the market analysis firm Taylor Nelson Sofres, in 12 major cities of the major islands.

For the survey, 1300 people, male and female, aged between 18 and 50, who have access to the Internet were interviewed. The interviewees were divided into four categories: those who have made purchases in the last 30 days, those who have made them in the last six months, those who, despite being online, have never bought anything online and those who have sold something on the Internet. Clothes, footwear, fashion accessories were the most requested items (51%), followed by mobile phones (19%) and electronics (14%).

Rudy Ramawy, head of Google Indonesia, also underlined that the majority of those who have not yet shopped on the Internet said that it is precisely clothes, shoes and bags that they would look for in online stores. Even Kusumo Martanto, managing director of the very popular web shop blibli.com, acknowledges that it is precisely fashion that is the engine of e-commerce growth in Indonesia.

“When we opened in 2011,” he recalls “clothing and accessories did not account for more than 15% of our sales, now they have reached 35% and the demand is continuously increasing”. "Our offer" she adds "is enriched by a thousand new products in the fashion sector every week, and despite this we have difficulty keeping up with an increasingly pressing demand".

Thanks to the constant increase in Internet access and the use of smartphones, the Indonesian e-commerce market is expected to have a turnover of 2016 billion dollars in 25, a remarkable growth if we take into account that last year there were scored just 8.
