Indonesia: the number of tourists is growing thanks to Apec

THEIndonesia recorded an increase in the tourist presence in March equal to 10,13 per cent. Many factors contributed to this exploit. First, more visitors were attracted by the series of world-class concerts that were performed at the meetings of theAsia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). Other festivals have been equally successful, such as the International Java Jazz Festival and Music Bank which has hosted an array of Korean pop stars. These events brought foreign attendance to 725.316 people.

“Usually we only get these numbers during the high season which lasts from July to December,” explains Mari Elka Pangestu, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Jakarta. “We hope that this growth will bring with it tourists who spend more and stay longer in the country”. The previous record number was 766.966 visitors in December. Apart from the international events, tourism has been supported by the opening of new slots by the Garuda Indonesia airline which has increased connections with Taiwan and Japan in particular. In any case, tourism from the Middle East increased the most, with an increase of 35 percent.
