Services PMI index: the Eurozone recovers, Italy does not

In July, the figure rose to 54,2 points in the euro area, from 52,8 in June – Setback in Italy (from 53,9 to 52,8) – France is back in the expansion zone (from 48,2 to 50,4) - Germany at the top for 37 months (from 54,6 to 56,4) - Spain beyond expectations (54,8 to 56,2 points) - Great Britain at its best for eight months (from 57,7 to 59,1).

Services PMI index: the Eurozone recovers, Italy does not

Improve the index PMI services related to the Eurozonealthough less than expected. According to calculations by Markit Economics, the figure rose to 54,2 points in July, from 52,8 in June. However, economists' forecasts spoke of a more marked improvement, up to 54,4.

The data on the tertiary sector balances the decline in manufacturing, bringing the composite PMI index to go back from 52,8 to 53,8. Also in this case the value is slightly lower than the estimates (54 points), although remaining well above the threshold of 50 points, which marks the boundary between expansion and contraction of the activity. 

As for the results of individual countries, again between June and July the SME services accuses a setback in Italy (from 53,9 to 52,8), while the figure relating to France it rose from 48,2 to 50,4, returning to the expansionary zone for the first time since April. 

The progress of the remarkable Germany, which recorded an increase of almost two points, from 54,6 to 56,4, the highest level in 37 months. The survey referring to the Spain instead, it rose from 54,8 to 56,2 points, exceeding the estimates of insiders, who had forecast a value of 55,1 points. 

Outside the Eurozone, the PMI services index rose in July Britain at most for eight months, going from 57,7 to 59,1.
