PMI index, Eurozone manufacturing grows slightly less than expected

Manufacturing: October flash estimate is 51,3, up two-tenths of a point from September but one-tenth of a point lower than analyst forecasts – In France the index is down to 49,4, when analysts expected the threshold of 50 points to be exceeded – Germany rises from 51,1 to 51,5 points – China did well (51,6)

PMI index, Eurozone manufacturing grows slightly less than expected

The MarkitPmi manufacturing index in the Eurozone marks a two-month high, although the result is slightly below - one tenth of a point - market expectations. The October flash estimate is 51,3, up from 51,1 in September.

On the other hand, the composite index decreased. In September it had reached the maximum value for 27 months (52,2), while in October it dropped to 51,5, when analysts were expecting a 52,4. In any case, it remains above the value indicating no change (50) for the fourth consecutive month. As regards tertiary activities, the flash estimate sees the index at 50,9 from 52,2 in September, decidedly below expectations (52,3).

In France, Markit Economics has announced that the preliminary data of the PMI Manufacturing Index, in the month of October, stood at 49,4 points, below the expectations of insiders, who expected 50,1 points. The figure was down on the previous survey by 49,8 points, indicating a further contraction in manufacturing activity, on the lowest levels of the last four months.

In Germany, the preliminary data relating to the PMI Manufacturing Index, in the month of October, rose from 51,1 points to 51,5 points. The figure was in line with analysts' expectations, signaling an expansion of the sector.

Meanwhile in China, the flash PMI rises to 50,9 points in October, the top for seven months, from 50,2 points in September, thanks to the surge in new orders (51,6 points).
