India, Kingfisher's fate hanging by a thread

La Kingfisher Indian airline he is eagerly awaiting a life-and-death verdict. India's Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is due to send a report to the government these days, based on a meeting it had with Kingfisher boss Vijay Mallya on Tuesday.

On the basis of this report, which should account for the desperate financial conditions of the slow cost flight company, the Ministry of Aviation may have to make very tough decisions. Among the probable hypotheses, there is the withdrawal of the license, in the event that the company does not try to comply with the necessary safety rules and financial viability. According to rumors, Mallya would have presented a survival plan for the airline (with the cancellation of all flights abroad) which, however, would not have satisfied the DGCA. Last winter Kingfisher had 64 airplanes making 400 flights a day. The fleet would now be reduced to 20 aircraft, 16 operational and four in reserve.
