Nightmare quarterly: Twitter -14%, Facebook recovering. Amazon +3,5%

Accounts in the red for Twitter which, like Facebook, pays for the drop in users in the second quarter 2018 report and opens the session on Wall Street down by -14%. Facebook attempts a rebound. Amazon does well, doubles profits and opens at +3,5%

The mixed results of the second quarter of 2018 were disastrous for Twitter which, following the negative performance of Facebook of the past two days, it opens the Friday session with a marked decline at -14% and continues with a further decline (-17,5% at 16:30 Italian time) when the Nasdaq records a drop of 0,29%.

Although it reported better-than-expected revenue of $711 million versus an estimated $692,2 million and earnings were in line with expectations at 17 cents per share and net income of $100,11 million, it was the drop in monthly users from 338,5 to 335 million to worry the markets. Daily active users grew by +11%.

As for Twitter, also for Facebook the drop in users represented the most negative figure to emerge from the publication of the accounts: today Mark Zuckerberg's shares opened up +1,6%.

Accounts in the green after the results of the second quarter for Amazon which published the accounts and opened trading on Wall Street up +3,5%: profits exploded to 2,5 billion and revenues increased by 39% at $52,9 billion, above analyst estimates thanks to contributions from cloud and advertising businesses.
