Can we say that Lombardy is the capital of Neapolitan pizza in Italy? Incredible but true because in Lombardy there are 17.760 points of sale while Campania reaches "more modestly" 17.436. But that's not all: among the just under ten thousand points of sale in the city of Milan there are numerous important Italian master pizza chefs and many top Neapolitan players who have opened pizzerias in Milan. The results of this analysis were made known on the occasion of the Coca-Cola Pizza Village, scheduled from 4 to 8 September in the setting of the CityLife park in Milan. The event, after the success of the first edition in 2023, returns in September recording a significant increase in the event evenings, number of pizzerias featured, partners and sponsors, activities for the public and services offered to visitors.
In Lombardy, 17.760 points of sale have been registered, while Campania reaches a “more modest” 17.436.
Other surprises come from the analysis of the production sector: of the 2,7 billion pizzas produced annually in Italy, with an average of 8 million per day, Milan produces more than Naples and Rome, which climbs to the third step of the podium, while the total number of points of sale on the national territory measures 121.529 establishments. But the city of Milan also records the primacy of national turnover which detects, in total, over 15 billion euros and, in proportion, that of the workers in the sector which turns out to exceed 373.034 employed among which over 110 thousand pizza chefs.
Great interest, therefore, for the Coca-Cola Pizza Village. In addition to the classic Marinara and Margherita, it will be possible to taste the specialties created for the occasion by the pizzerias present: Biga (pizza maker, Simone Nicolosi), Da Zero (pizza maker, Mauro Fragella), Errico Porzio (pizza maker, Errico Porzio), Vincenzo Capuano (pizza maker, Vincenzo Capuano), Ciro Cascella (pizza maker, Ciro Cascella), Fresco (pizza maker, Rodolfo Barone), Modus (pizza maker Paolo De Simone), Raffaele Di Stasio (pizza maker, Raffaele Di Stasio), Lievità (pizza maker, Giorgio Caruso) and Bottega Ghiotta (pizza maker, Gennaro Donnarumma).
Milan's primacy in national turnover of over 15 billion euros
In the five evenings scheduled, different performers from the national and international music scene will take turns on stage: on Wednesday 4th the Rocoe & Body Heat Gang Band, on Thursday 5th Nick The Nightfly returns with his Pop Swing Orchestra, on Friday 6th Fabio Concato, on Saturday 7th Napoli Night Live Show (a tribute to Neapolitan music) and on Sunday 8th, closing the schedule, Serafine, the winner of X Factor 2023. And again, the Pizza Tales space will host on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th, starting at 18.00pm in the hospitality area, meetings and talks on the theme of pizza, a unique opportunity to explore, together with industry experts, the notable changes that have characterized its evolution in recent years.
The event scheduled in Milan is, as always, free to enter and this year it also offers its public two tasting options: the characteristic standard menu (pizza, soft drink, coffee) at a cost of 15 euros in advance and 20 euros during the event, and the special Coca-Cola and pizza a portafoglio combo, at a cost of 10 euros in advance and 12 euros during the days of the event.
