Inail privatized? Fornero: "Non-existent topic"

The Institute remains under a substantial public monopoly - "The reform of the governance of social security institutions cannot be settled in an afternoon"

Inail privatized? Fornero: "Non-existent topic"

It is necessary "to clear the field of a controversy on a totally non-existent topic, namely that of the hypothesis of privatization of Inail". This is the clarification of the Minister of Labour, Elsa Fornero, who reiterates that "the Government confirms that the Institute's mission is to provide compulsory and generalized social insurance, carried out under a system of substantial public monopoly, which concerns health and the safety of citizens and workers".

After hearing from the Montecitorio Labor Commission, the minister also addresses the issue of governance of social security institutions. Sparing also controversial observations, he recalled that the government took office in November 2011 and has already carried out an overall pension reform, intervening to reduce the public debt problem, which weighs heavily on future generations, as well as a complex reform of the work, which was worked on for over three months; at the same time, his dicastery is still engaged on the side of the so-called "exodus".

Therefore, no accusation against the government of not having yet approved the reform of the governance of social security and assistance institutions, "which - underlines Fornero - cannot be done without the collaboration and contribution of all the parliamentary groups and certainly cannot be liquidated in an afternoon, if it is true - he adds controversially - that an authoritative predecessor has even employed an important consultancy firm to study possible reform interventions on the subject, to commission which, at present, my Ministry does not even have the funds available".

Fornero's presence in the commission was linked to the opinion on the appointment of Professor Massimo De Felice as president of Inail. And the occasion served the minister to reply to the criticisms of the modality of this choice, specifying the reasons: namely a university professor characterized by clear independence, who immediately removed any question linked to potential conflicts of interest, an indication that it has the assent of the entire government.
