In China, a female unit becomes part of the "leatherheads"

A multinational anti-terrorist exercise has begun in northern China's Inner Mongolia region involving the military units of four countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. This year, however, there is something new: the presence, among the 'leatherheads' of a Chinese female unit.

Chen Ye, a 23-year-old girl, says: “I always wanted to serve in the military. My brother is also a military man, I admired him a lot when I was little, and I told myself that I too wanted to do what he did”. So today Chen Ye is part of the "Chinese Army Special Operations Force". The women's special unit consists of 30 female soldiers. The training is less intense for women, but they have something more than men. Ma Shifu, a spokesman for the Special Operation Forces, said that "female agents are better at conducting reconnaissance, hostage negotiations and infiltration of enemy lines, as it is easier for them to disguise themselves and confuse the enemy." .

The exercise involves about 7000 soldiers and tomorrow – August 29 – there will be the last simulation: infiltration and rescue of hostages in an urban environment.
