Imu, last day: how and where you pay, all the penalties for latecomers

The big day has arrived. Today is the deadline to pay the Imu balance and long queues are already expected at bank and post office counters. The last installment of the new real estate tax should bring a revenue of about 15 billion euros into the state coffers, which added to the 9 paid in advance in June would increase the total to 23-24 billion euros, something more compared to the 21 budgeted in the Salva-Italia decree a year ago. For the balance of the tax, in some cases even double the down payment will be paid and "three out of five Italians have resorted to the savings made in recent years to pay the tax on their first home", notes Confedilizia.

But what will happen to those who fail to pay? Taxpayers who do not pay the much hated Imu out of necessity or out of simple desire to evade will have to deal with various types of sanctions. Anyone who is a few days late will get away with a mini-penalty: the so-called "active repentance" means that the fine is equal to 0,2% for each day of delay in the first two weeks. From the fifteenth to the thirtieth day of delay, the fine will rise to 3%. From 30 days up to one year from the expiry of the installment, a fine equal to 3,75% of the tax due is applied. However, the legal interest for the delay must be added to the fine (the annual rate in this case is 2,5%). Finally, after a year, the industrious repentance will no longer be possible and, once the assessment by the Municipality has been triggered, the fine to be paid will be very high, equal to 30% of the tax.

For those who rush to pay in the last few hours available, let's remember where and how Imu payments can be made.
