The Japanese company has become the first automotive company to reveal its 'ecological footprint' in terms of greenhouse gas emissions.

“Ecological footprint”, the first is Honda

Honda has become the first automaker to disclose its 'ecological footprint' in terms of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG). The internationally adopted GHG protocol prescribes three levels of emissions: the first is 'direct' emissions, ie those linked to the production process: in short, the fumes emitted by its factories. The second is the indirect one: if Honda buys, as indeed it buys, energy (gas, electricity, steam…), the emissions linked to those purchased inputs must be counted. The third is the emissions related to all the rest of Honda's business: offices, dealerships, and other purchases, from those of refined petroleum products to those of furniture, computers, stationery…, each of which carries its own emissions 'footprint'. Other car manufacturers had communicated the GHGs of the first two levels, but Honda was the first to also complete the calculation - certainly more complex - of level 3.
