Companies, youth sprint: one out of 5 is in the hands of under 35s

This is what emerges from the analysis by Unioncamere-Infocamere on the stillbirth rate of young companies in the first half of this year: telecommunications, finance and games are the most explored sectors.

Businesses led by young people push the accelerator and drive the growth of the Italian entrepreneurial fabric. In the first six months of the year, almost one out of 3 new businesses (30,4%) was led by entrepreneurs under 35. Compared to the end of 2016, their number increased by +6,1%, against 0,3, 36.965% of the total number of businesses, achieving a positive balance of 566.268 units between January and June. Thus, the number of companies headed by young people under the age of 35 present at the end of June 2017 in the Business Register of the Chambers of Commerce rises to XNUMX. This is what emerges from the analysis by Unioncamere-Infocamere on the stillbirth rate of young companies in the first half of this year.

Overall, as of last June 30, almost one Italian company out of ten was under 35, with peaks of greater presence in sectors such as lotteries, betting and gambling houses (1 out of 4), postal services and courier activities (1 out of 5) and building and landscaping services (cleaning and gardening), where 15% of the total businesses are young people. But looking at the new registrations, a map emerges of the productive sectors on which young people are now betting the most.

In first place is the telecommunications sector, in which almost one out of two new businesses (48,2%) of those opened between January and June is led by under-35s. Very close (47,5%) are services financial and over 40% the aforementioned lottery activities, postal and courier services and personal services. Forestry activities (39,7% of all new openings in the six months) and those related to advertising and market research (39,5% of all new entries) also have a very strong youth vocation.

Sardinia is the region where, in the first half of 2017, youth businesses accelerated the most: the balance between registrations and terminations +10,4% and +1.756 businesses. Followed by Basilicata (+9%, +605) and Trentino Alto Adige (+7,9%, +740). At the provincial level, the initiative of young people from Nuoro stands out (+491 companies in the period January-June 2017, for a growth rate of 13,9%), followed by those from Oristano (+562, +16,4%) and from Rieti (+179, +11,4%).

Youth businesses are at the forefront in choosing the legal form to adopt: joint-stock companies increased by 9% in the first six months of 2017 (against 2,1% of all businesses), reaching almost 109 thousand units. Increases of almost 6% also affect sole proprietorships (against the -0,2% recorded by the total number of businesses) which, with 404 businesses registered at the end of June 2017, still remain the most widespread legal form, even among young business leaders .
