Enterprises: in Italy 1 out of 10 is run by foreigners

According to a Unioncamere-Infocamere report, there are over 600 businesses run by foreigners in Italy and they are recording double the average growth.

Businesses managed by foreigners are growing in Italyi, reaching 600 companies at the end of June. Compared to the first quarter, the increase is 1,1%, double the average of companies in the same period (+0,5%). In numbers we are talking about 6.800 more companies in six months. These are the data contained in a report by Unioncamere and Infocamere. 

At the sectoral level, foreigners who decide to do business in Italy are mainly concentrated in the Retail (161 thousand companies), in the works of construction (113 thousand) and in Catering (47 thousand) and, in 8 regions out of 20, they represent over 10% of economic activities. In two other sectors, however, explains Unioncamere "foreign companies come to represent a third of the total" This is the packaging of articles of clothing, which has 17 businesses led by foreigners, 31,4% of the total, and of the 3.400 companies in the sector of "telecommunications”, which are 33,2% of the total. 

From a territorial point of view, however, 40% of these companies are concentrated in the large provinces, starting with Rome, which has over 69 businesses of foreign entrepreneurs. In terms of growth, however, in the April-June period it was some smaller companies that recorded the highest variations: Brindisi in the first place (+3,1%), followed by Taranto (2,9%) and Terni (+2,8%).

For the countries of origin of the foreigners who decide to open a business in Italy, the most substantial components are Moroccan, Chinese and Romanian, mainly active in the commercial sector (the first two) and in construction (the Romanians).
