The women owners of a business in Italy have exceeded the wall of one million and 300 thousand units and, with their activities, they characterize some key sectors of our economy. Starting with the holiday and leisure industry, in which the female entrepreneurial component is conspicuous. As shown by the Observatory for female entrepreneurship of Unioncamere and InfoCamere, at the end of June 1.306.214 companies registered in the Chambers of Commerce Register, equal to 21,6% of the total, have a woman at the top or a majority female participation. 

In many segments, however, female participation is much higher: it touches or exceeds 40% in travel agencies, in other booking services including those concerning tourist guides, in holiday accommodation and in library and archives. Furthermore, women's businesses are more or less a third of the activities of tour operators, hotels, catering supplies, bars, museum activities, the management of amusement parks and theme parks and bathing establishments. They abundantly exceed 25% in the management of campsites, restaurants, canteens, in the management of gyms and other recreational and entertainment activities.

In non-residential social assistance and in residential social assistance services, the rate of feminization of the national productive fabric marks values ​​above 40%. And it even touches half of the total companies that operate in other service activities, especially those related to the person.

There is a strong presence of women especially in some regions of the South: Molise, Basilicata and Abruzzo, in fact, lead the ranking for the rate of feminization of the economy, with values ​​between 25 and 28%. On the opposite side are Trentino Alto Adige, Lombardy and Veneto, where the presence of women entrepreneurs is less than 20%.

At the provincial level, Benevento, Avellino, Chieti, Frosinone and the two provinces of Molise meet at the top of the ranking with rates above 28%, while Milan, Monza Brianza, Reggio Emilia, the two provinces of Trentino Alto Adige, Como, Lodi, Lecco and Vicenza are below 19%.
