Businesses: 63 thousand those never born due to Covid

Only in Italy, Covid has prevented the birth of about 63 thousand businesses. The estimate refers to the period March 2020 - March 2021 and is contained in a report by Unioncamere and InfoCamere on the birth and death rates of Italian companies.

“The data confirms the forte relationship between the climate of confidence and the birth rate of firms and make evident the significant discouragement in starting new businesses that characterized much of this period”, reads the analysis.

As regards the first quarter of 2021, "the registrations between January and March amounted to 103.597", while "the actual terminations from the Business Register amounted to 98.491 units", continues the note from Unioncamere-Infocamere.

However, if we also consider the cancellations decided ex officio by the Chambers of commerce following a prolonged inactivity of the companies, the total number of closures rises to 106.598, "confirming the substantial stagnation of the balance between registrations and terminations", concludes the note.
