Breath of fresh air from 430 million of euros for the ski lift operators, which - due to Covid - were forced to closed from 4 December at the 30 April. The European Commission has in fact approved the aid package by way of compensation launched by the Italian government.

In Italy, you can look forward to 5.788 km of slopes: the ski resorts are served by 1.754 ski lifts which generate a turnover around 1,2 billion euros. directly employing over 14 people, plus another 2 workers in related activities.

Under the support scheme endorsed by the Community executive, ski lift operators will be entitled to compensation in the form of direct contributions for part of the lost income in the period in question. But under specific conditions:

  1. the Italian authorities will have to verify that the aid does not exceed what is due, avoiding the so-called "over-compensation" and ensuring that no single beneficiary receives more compensation than the damages it has suffered;
  2. that any payment in excess of the actual damage is recovered.

If it does not respect these conditions, Italy will incur infringement procedures for state aid contrary to the Community rules in force.
