IMMIGRATION – Merkel and Hollande pressing Italy and Greece

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Francois Hollande urge Italy and Greece on migrants: "Set up recognition centres" to distinguish refugees from illegal immigrants

IMMIGRATION – Merkel and Hollande pressing Italy and Greece

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President François Hollande yell at Italy and Greece over immigration. During the summit held today in Berlin, the two leaders asked Rome and Athens to activate registration centers for asylum-seeking migrants as soon as possible. Registration is the first act to distinguish refugees from illegal immigrants.

Faced with the most serious refugee emergency that has ever hit Europe and which is destined to last, France and Germany have come off the defensive and have gone on the attack, asking to "set up a unified system for the right to asylum" at the which all EU Member States will have to comply "as quickly as possible".

For Merkel it is important that all EU countries are able to meet the minimum standards for reception centers and health supplies. Now it's up to Matteo Renzi and Alexis Tsipras to answer.
