Immigrants, first victory for Trump but not over Mexico

The American president welcomes with a "Wow" the decision of the Supreme Court which clears the provision on the veto on entry into the USA for some countries deemed dangerous. But the judges were split in half. From California reunification order for Mexican families

On immigration, Donald Trump celebrates his first victory with a "Wow": the American Supreme Court has confirmed the ban imposed by his administration on entry into the USA for citizens of various Muslim-majority countries, rejecting the thesis that it is a unconstitutional and discriminatory measure on a religious basis or which exceeds the authority of the president. But at the same time, the cold shower also arrives: a California judge has ordered the US border authorities to reunite the separated families within 30 days. And if the children are under 5, they must be reunited with their parents within 14 days of the order, issued yesterday evening. Thus the veto of the president who caused so much discussion in the US and beyond falls, while First Lady Melania Trump prepares for her second trip to the border, to make sure in person on the situation of separated families.

More than 2.000 children have been separated from their parents in recent weeks and placed in government-supervised shelters. Under public pressure, Donald Trump last week issued an executive order to stop the separation of families and said parents and children would instead be detained together.

Going back to the 'Muslim ban' has become one of the first and controversial provisions that the tycoon president issued a few days after his inauguration in the White House at the beginning of 2016, sparking protests, opposition and triggering a legal battle with the decision of judges who State by State they have repeatedly disavowed and held firm the measure. A challenge to which the White House has responded by revising the text, adjusting its drafting, re-evaluating the countries concerned one by one: they are now Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen, with Chad which was removed from the list in the third version presented on last September, the one on which the Supreme Court expressed its judgment but split, with five votes in favor and four against.

Trump cheers. “WOW!”, He immediately exclaims on Twitter. Then he celebrates “a huge victory for the American people and for our constitution. We have to be tough and guarantee safety. We need to know who enters our country. The attacks by the media and democratic politicians have proven wrong. I will always defend the sovereignty and security of the American people."
