Ilva, towards request for layoffs for 5 thousand workers

Ilva commissioner Piero Gnudi has requested admission to extraordinary administration - This request worries the companies of the Ilva related industries which boast 150 million euros in credits

Ilva, towards request for layoffs for 5 thousand workers

A Taranto the week begins with the protests of the workers of theinduced by Ilva, which they also blocked this morning state 106, road artery of primary importance that connects the Ionian capital with Reggio Calabria. And it is precisely the chaos linked to related industries that is one of the crucial points of the extremely delicate issue linked to Ilva.

The workers of the Ilva associated companies are around 3mila and they have not received a salary for several months. This is mainly due to the non-payment of the receivables that the associated companies have against Ilva. Today, according to reports from the Taranto edition of the Quotidiano di Puglia, workers and union representatives took to the streets again, finding themselves under the town hall of Taranto and headed towards state road 106, blocking traffic and tanker access to the Eni refinery.

The concern of the 3 thousand related workers and of the business owners themselves is mainly linked to another fundamental point of the story Ilva: the formal admission to theextraordinary administration with the Marzano law. The commissioner Piero Gnudi presented the request to the Ministry of Economic Development and the Court of Milan. The request should be accepted because it is foreseen by the decree law now in the Senate and in fact certifies the company's heavy exposure to banks and suppliers. Ilva would be exposed to banks for around 1,4 billion. The contractors would boast another 150 million euros. Entrepreneurs and workers fear that with the concession of the extraordinary administration, Ilva will no longer go to pay off the debt of 150 million or that it will do so only minimally.

The knot linked to the extraordinary administration of Ilva also agitates them Ilva employees. And this is precisely the most thorny point. On the plate is the working fate of thousands of workers. Tomorrow, Tuesday January 27, there will be an important meeting at the Mise between Ilva and the metalworkers' unions. The well-informed say that Ilva will present a request for rolling layoffs for 5 workers. A much higher number of workers than those who are below today solidarity agreement. According to what transpires from the unions, the request to switch from solidarity contracts to layoffs would not derive from the possible forthcoming introduction of extraordinary administration but from the company's inability to cover the costs of the same solidarity contracts.

There is also the decree law relating to Ilva in which the Senate's Industry and Environment commissions will intervene on some amendments. Among these are the one relating to the implementation times of the Integrated Environmental Authorization and the other on the possibility for the extraordinary administration to use the 150 million set aside by Fintecna for management as soon as the decree is converted into law.
