Ilva, negotiation in the balance: Emiliano does not withdraw the appeal to the Tar

The standoff over Ilva continues between the Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, and the Governor of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano - If the latter does not withdraw the appeal to the Tar on the environmental remediation plan of Taranto, the negotiation for the rehabilitation and revitalization of the iron and steel plant will not restart.

Ilva, negotiation in the balance: Emiliano does not withdraw the appeal to the Tar

Until the Governor of the Puglia Region, Michele Emiliano, withdraws the appeal to the Tar on the environmental remediation plan of Taranto, the negotiating table, convened by the Ministry of Economic Development for the relaunch of Ilva and initially scheduled for December 20, will not open . The Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, was clear: "It cannot be discussed at the same time on a negotiating table and in the courtroom".

Calenda said he hoped that Governor Emiliano would participate at the table, but only after the withdrawal of the appeal to the Tar, which risks jeopardizing the entire rescue operation and putting a global steel giant like ArcelorMittal to flight.

But for now the tug of war between the minister and the governor continues and the table on Ilva does not open, to the great alarm of workers and unions. “The appeal – Emiliano argued – remains standing until our observations are discussed”. Hoping that to save the largest Italian steel plant it is not too late and that the Italy of vetoes and quibbles does not sink the Italy that wants to rise again.
