Ilva, unions: "Negotiation starts without constraints"

According to the workers' representatives, "it is necessary to re-establish the initial conditions of the confrontation without pre-established and binding conditions"

We publish below the joint declaration of Fiom Cgil, Fim Cisl and Uilm regarding the negotiations with the government and Am Investco Italy on the future of the Ilva establishments. The negotiations, which are about to restart, had been suspended at the beginning of the month by the Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, who considered the guarantees offered by the consortium controlled by the Indian Arcelor Mittal as regards wages and contracts as insufficient.

"After the postponement of the meeting of 9 October decided by Minister Carlo Calenda, late yesterday evening we received the communication from the Extraordinary Commissioners of Ilva and the representatives of AM InvestCo Italy, inviting the trade union organizations to participate to a new meeting at the Ministry of Economic Development.
Also this time the trade union organizations, after the mobilization of the last few days with a very large adhesion of the workers of Ilva and of the institutions of the provinces concerned, will present themselves to the table completely overcoming the contents indicated in the communication pursuant to art. 47 of 6 October last and reconfirming the unacceptability of the redundancies declared and the penalties of the economic and regulatory conditions, salary levels, classification and seniority.
It is necessary to restore the initial conditions of the confrontation without pre-established and binding conditions.
For us, the negotiation can only start from a serious discussion on the Industrial and Environmental Plan and with insights into investments, production volumes and work organization also in relation to related industries.
The Government, which has decided to postpone the meeting of 9 October due to a lack of substantial compliance with the commitments by the company, favors an urgent but real negotiation, also clarifying the role of the Extraordinary Commissioners (your expression) who have shared with AM InvestCO Italy the contents of the communication of the art. 47 which we reiterate, once again, turn out to be "unacceptable and unjustifiable".
We expect, after the hearings in the Chamber and in the Senate in which the positions of the union organizations were shared, also the full support of all the political forces.
We will continue, for the entire duration of the negotiations, with the state of agitation in all the Ilva group plants and continuing the meetings with local institutions".
