THEIlva will invest 146 million euros in environmental remediation, of which 90 have already been funded and 56 are still to be implemented. This was announced by the president of the Apulian steel plant, Bruno Ferrante, after meeting the ministers of the environment and economic development in Taranto, Conrad Clini e Corrado Passera.
Ferrante reiterated today that the Ilva case is complex and articulated, but "in the end common sense and reason must prevail", making work, health, the environment and business coexist. Today the city is armored by the police: processions in the red areas are prohibited for the arrival of the two ministers.
Passera and Clini also met the representatives of the Puglia Region, the Municipality and the Province of Taranto in the Prefecture. Following the appointments with trade unions and Confindustria.
The meetings had been convened to discuss the alleged dioxin pollution which led the investigating magistrate of Taranto, Patrizia Todisco, to order a halt to production in the six hot-process departments of Ilva already seized. The magistrate also revoked Ferrante's position as custodian and administrator of the sequestered areas entrusted to him by the judges of the review due to a conflict of interest.
