Ilva: Eni cuts gas supply

Eni's decision, caused by non-payments, puts production at risk - Suppliers and contractors are asking the group to liquidate a portion of the receivables.

Ilva: Eni cuts gas supply

New troubles for Ilva, now cornered even by suppliers. In fact, Eni has sent a letter to the Taranto plant announcing the stop to the supply of gas starting from the end of the month due to non-payments. Although a large part of the gas that enters the iron and steel industry comes from reuse, the loss of the external quota, which is used to heat blast furnaces and steel mills, would seriously jeopardize the production activity.

Other problems, for Ilva, are those with the contractors and associated companies, which ask to liquidate a portion of the credits for the works carried out with the 125 million of the second and final installment of the bridging loan granted in recent days by the banks to all Ilva. An increasingly heavy situation, according to the words of the president of Confindustria Taranto Vincenzo Cesareo: "If we don't get paid we risk displacing the staff as well as not paying salaries and thirteenths. I hope it doesn't have to go that far and that a way out in extremis is found. Today there is a fact: the Ilva crisis has overwhelmed us”.

Meanwhile, the metalworkers' unions have declared the state of agitation of the workers of the Taranto and Genoa-Cornigliano plants, who are asking for guarantees on salaries but above all on the future. A day of general mobilization involving all the group's plants is possible.
