Ilva and Fincantieri, from the Government off to the release

The Council of Ministers gave the green light to a decree containing the measures to prevent the blockage of the areas and plants seized from Ilva and the Fincantieri plant in Monfalcone, at the end of a quick meeting yesterday evening.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi who then commented on the choice of the council of ministers in a long post on Facebook: “We are finally proposing a strategic vision for the country. Step by step, one brick at a time, not only saving companies, but also building the future. Full speed ahead, it's the right time".

The decree should be published in the Official Journal perhaps as early as tomorrow. As far as Fincantieri is concerned, the measure provides an authentic interpretation of the legislation on environmental matters which will make it possible to resolve the problem raised by the magistrates of Gorizia.

Instead, as far as Ilva is concerned, a formulation has been reached which provides that in the cases of companies of national strategic importance subjected to precautionary measures by the judiciary, the measure does not prevent the continuation of the business activity on condition that the company submits in stringent terms a plan for the adoption of additional measures regarding occupational safety.
