Ilva, Clini: an ad hoc measure on Thursday

After the closure of the Ilva steel plants, Environment Minister Corrado Clini announced that the government is working on an ad hoc measure to resolve the situation. “The solution will be ready by the time we meet on Thursday – said the minister to the microphones of Sky -. We are working to ensure that the conclusion of the meeting on Thursday is a measure that allows us to overcome this situation". Almost certainly the path that will be chosen to follow will be “that of decree".

According to Clini, the provision of the Taranto magistrate, who yesterday notified the preventive seizure, "makes the application of the Integrated Environmental Authorization very difficult, which is the only way for recovery and which is the law". The Executive therefore intends "to make possible the full application of the Hague and, at the same time, to allow the continuity of production activities".

Furthermore, the minister deems it necessary "to ensure that Ilva invests the resources necessary for the rehabilitation of the plants".

After the announcement of the closure of Ilva, Prime Minister Mario Monti has convened a summit for next Thursday at 15 pm in Palazzo Chigi. In addition to the Premier, according to what has been learned, ministers Passera, Clini and Balduzzi will be present for the government. The social partners and local administrators from Puglia were also summoned.
