Among the many "dramatic" numbers proposed by the crisis since 2008, the year it began, one of the most striking is certainly that relating to the unemployed it has created around the world. Above all, according to data from the ILO (International Labor Organization) and the OECD, in the G-20 countries, where in the last four years the jobs "burned" by the recession amounted to 21,3 million.

Bad news especially for Italy, which is the black shirt in the ranking of the employment report: in the last year the unemployed in Italy increased by 23,4%, reaching a total of 2 million 506 thousand. This was the largest increase among the G-20 countries, followed by Spain's plus 15,6%, and Britain's plus 5,9%. For the EU as a whole, the number of unemployed, at 24,772 million, increased by 9,4%. Conversely, the sharpest drop was recorded in Turkey, with a 12% drop in unemployment.

The report also points out how heavy is youth unemployment (16-24 years) whose rate is higher than that of adults in all G20 countries: there are 37 million young people without work. "We ask ministers to do more to help young people", declare in a note the secretary general of the OECD, Angel Gurria, and the director general of the ILO, Juan Somavia, "as well as with measures to stimulate employment, young people's access to the labor market can be facilitated through interventions to improve their preparation through broad access to basic education and job training”.
