Iliad chooses Open Fiber and lands on landlines

Iliad chooses Open Fiber for landing on the landline. The low-cost operator that has had a strong impact on mobile telephony has signed an agreement with Open Fiber to use the entirely fiber optic network FTTH (Fiber To The Home, the fiber that arrives directly inside homes and offices), with which Open Fiber is cabling the country, to provide its customers with the highest connection speed in circulation.

The strategic partnership signed between the two groups includes the entire perimeter of the plan that OF is implementing with direct investment in 271 cities. Iliad's customer base, recalls the joint statement that announced the agreement, has reached "over 5 and a half million people conquered in less than 2 years since entering the market". Overall, Iliad has over 25 million fixed and mobile customers in Europe. The agreement with Iliad, after those already reached with Orange, WindTre, Vodafone and others, brings the agreements reached with TLC operators to over 100.

Iliad for its part had announced the leap towards fixed-mobile convergence and sees in the agreement with Open Fiber the first step towards achieving the expansion objectives on the fixed market. The agreement makes it possible to speed up times at a time when the demand for connection is soaring due to homeworking and the impact of Covid-19.

"The collaboration with Iliad, which has chosen Open Fiber for its entry into the fixed market, is further confirmation of the validity of Open Fiber's neutral model" he commented Elisabetta Ripa, Chief Executive Officer of Open Fiber. “In less than three years, Open Fiber has become the leader in Italy and in Europe in new generation fiber networks and the reference infrastructure for all the main digitization players in our country. Our entirely fiber optic network is the only one capable of enabling the development of services with the best available technology that bring benefits to citizens and businesses, helping to bridge the digital gap that Italy still suffers from compared to the European average due to of decades of lost investments in the fixed network”.

“Iliad has brought transparency, simplicity and clarity to the telephony world by building a solid and trusted relationship with its users. These are values that our users ask us to bring to the fixed network segment as well,” he added Benedict Levi, Ad of Iliad. "The growing demand for connectivity in recent months has prompted us to speed up the entry into the fixed segment and the partnership with Open Fiber is the first step in this direction".
