Iliad: new offer at 8 euros but Kena and Ho fight back

From 1,5 million customers reached in August, Iliad has already passed to 2 million in just over 3 months and is launching a new offer: 50 GB in Italy, 4 GB in Europe, unlimited text messages, and unlimited calls to over 60 destinations foreign. But Vodafone relaunches with Ho.mobile and Tim brings in Kena Mobile. Here are the deals in this no-holds-barred battle. And in the background the race for 5G opens

Iliad: new offer at 8 euros but Kena and Ho fight back

The race to raise the super-discounted rates for landlines and mobiles has started. And Iliad continues the "price war" with a new, even more aggressive offer that reinforces the advantages of the previous promotion (at 6,99 euros it guaranteed 40 GB, 3 GB in Europe and unlimited calls and text messages). But Vodafone with its low cost Ho.mobile and Tim with Kena didn't stand idly by and went on the counterattack.

La new Iliad offer at 7,99 euros is guaranteed for 500.000 users and includes:
• Unlimited minutes and SMS
• 50 GB/month in 4G / 4G+ in Italy
• 4 GB/month in Europe
• Unlimited minutes to over 60 destinations abroad on landline or mobile
• No constraints, with a guaranteed price forever
• Numerous additional services at no cost such as answering machine, call me back and tariff plan.

Furthermore, in the last month the company has inaugurated new stores in Milan and Rome to confirm its presence in Italy. Tim and Vodafone are not standing idly by in this race with no holds barred and have launched two products: Vodafone has offered rates at 6,99 and 7,99 euros for its new virtual operator Ho.mobile, while Tim has added to the basket Kena a new offer for the house. Let's see them.

I.mobile started with a proposal that included 40 GB of internet traffic in 4G, unlimited minutes and SMS for 6,99 euros. That launch, however, has now concluded and currently those who want to switch to Ho.Mobile can choose a new one offer from 7,99 euros, which includes 40 GB of traffic but in 4G defined as "basic" (with a connection speed of 30 Mega both in download and upload), unlimited minutes and SMS based on the tariff transparency sheet. In practice, the difference between Iliad and Ho, both in the first and in the second offer, is played on one euro in terms of price but while Iliad - except in Rome and Milan - offers the service mainly in roaming, i.e. using the Wind-Tre network (declared coverage close to 100%), Ho.mobile instead relies on the Vodafone network which boasts 4G coverage (very fast) over 98% of the Italian territory. While Iliad, in the tariff transparency document, speaks of a network with a maximum download speed of 390 Mega and an upload speed of 50 Mega on the 3G network (slower) and 4G-4G + (faster). Network quality and customer service are points to take into consideration and the competition is also based on these.

So Tim plays the card of Kena House. The service, still in an experimental phase, can be requested at authorized points of sale and is aimed at those customers who live in areas not yet reached by broadband and offers connectivity wireless that is without cable, using the Lte mobile network, the fastest one. The offer covers the entire national territory and at a cost of 24,90 euros per month offers connectivity up to 30 mega, higher than many of the comparable ADSL lines which usually travel at a speed of 20 mega. The price also includes the possible installation of an external antenna in case the coverage is not sufficient. Kena Mobile customers who already have an active promotion of at least 5 euros per month will be able to take advantage of the Kena Casa Promo promotion which has a lower cost, equal to 19,90 euros per month.

In conclusion, the low-cost offers are opening up a new game between operators and Iliad's strategy, according to reports from various analysts, risks eroding the margins of other operators already established on the market. According to Moody's, however, Iliad should not be able to reach the target of 10% of customers and will stop between 5 and 7%. The battle is raging at a time when Tim, Vodafone and Wind-Tre will have to prepare to face new, important investments in view of the tender for 5G frequencies who will decide the telephony of the future, with the implications of the Internet of things, intelligent mobility and smart cities.
