The WWF rejects Europe on climate and energy. The decarbonisation goal by 2050 is at risk

Europe is not doing enough on climate and energy. Italy, on a report card ranging from A to G, gets a mediocre E. These are the main elements that emerge from the study by WWF and Ecofys Climate policy tracker released in Durban, South Africa, on the occasion of the United Nations summit on climate change.

“The EU at this rate – underline the EU and Ecofys – will not achieve the goal of decarbonisation by 2050” which would mean losing the opportunity for a transition towards more competitive economies. The general average of European climate policies corresponds to E. Consequently, for the Old Continent there remains "a general impasse regarding long-term actions".

Among the most promising countries are Denmark (which presented a strategy with the aim of becoming independent of fossil fuels by 2050) and Germany (reducing emissions by 80-95 percent) with a 'D' ; among the mediocre are France, with an 'E' and Romania with an 'F'. Downhill instead Ireland that moves away from its 'D'. At the bottom of the ranking with an 'F' Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Greece and Poland. Italy confirms the 'E' rating. Our country - they explain - "does not yet have a global climate strategy for a low-carbon economy" and at the same time "the national action plan for renewable energies and that for efficiency" could suffer slowdowns.
