Il Tempo del Leone: new edition of the volume that tells the story of Generali

The history of Generali and its interconnections with Italian and world history. This is the central theme of the new edition of Il Tempo del Leone, a story in pictures of the almost bicentenary history of one of the world's leading insurance companies, from 1831 to today, of one of the world's largest insurance groups.

The book, published by Generali, contains a preface by Paolo Rumiz. Renewed graphics and expanded content compared to the previous editions of 2002 and 2007, the volume provides a detailed account of the events and protagonists that have accompanied the history of Generali, now enriched by a new section dedicated to the "profiles" of the men of the Company and with numerous factsheets.

In a system of cross-references and interconnections, the history of Generali is intertwined, as mentioned, with that of Italy and the world. The story of the company's life is accompanied by news and period photos illustrating political and war events, scientific discoveries and geographical explorations, cultural events, advertising, comics and sporting achievements.

The volume also devotes a broad focus to the Company's non-financial activities, revealing lesser-known aspects of Generali such as, for example, the historic real estate assets, agricultural activities and the promotion of art. The afterword by Paolo Possamai, director of the newspaper il Piccolo, closes the work by retracing the cosmopolitan history of Trieste which is intertwined with that of Generali.

"Insurance was a great invention of the commercial bourgeoisie - the president Gabriele Galateri di Genola and the managing director Mario Greco recall in the introduction - an innovation that has contributed powerfully to the economic development of the West, to the improvement of its standard of living and then that of the rest of the world, and we believe that the adventures of their protagonists are worth telling”.
